Meet Ness – Founder of Active Art
Art Therapist | Educator | Behaviour Specialist & Artist
My journey into wellbeing and art began in my early twenties, while working as an Outdoor Education Instructor. It was during this time that I discovered the powerful connection between nature and creativity. Watching individuals express their feelings through their art — inspired by the natural world around them — sparked a passion in me that has only grown stronger over the years.
In 2006, I furthered my studies to become a Primary and Secondary Teacher, deepening my understanding of diverse learning styles and the ways in which art can be a therapeutic tool — whether in a classroom, out in the bush, or in everyday life. Working with remote Indigenous communities in the Northern Territory, alongside students experiencing trauma, disabilities, and behaviours of concern, I witnessed firsthand how creative expression can empower, heal, and connect.
I’m passionate about education, holistic wellbeing, community connection, and all things outdoors and creative.
In 2018, I founded Active Art — initially a holistic art and wellbeing program for preschoolers in Melbourne. After relocating to the beautiful South Coast of NSW, Active Art grew with our family, evolving into a dynamic community-focused service offering tailored workshops, creative wellbeing programs, and individual art therapy for people of all ages and abilities.
As an Art Therapist, Counsellor, Educator, and Behaviour Specialist, I now work with both NDIS and non-NDIS clients, facilitating meaningful creative experiences that promote mental health, resilience, and personal growth.
I love all forms of art — from painting, sketching, and photography, to lino printing, clay work, sewing, writing, and music. I’ve seen the profound impact that art can have on children and adults from all backgrounds, cultures, and levels of ability. When combined with mindfulness and therapeutic intention, art becomes more than just an activity — it becomes a language, a release, and a path to healing.
Through Active Art, I am proud to share this passion with the community I live in. It’s a space where individuals feel empowered, supported, and inspired to explore, create, and connect — with themselves and with others.escription goes here
